The Blessed Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ and one of the most revered figures in Christianity, has been a source of mystery and admiration for thousands of years. Despite many Christians still being unaware of why they should worship her, various biblical passages serve as strong evidence for honoring the Blessed Virgin Mary as a devout servant of God.
To begin with, the Bible teaches that all people should honor those who hold positions of authority. Thus, it is appropriate to venerate the Blessed Virgin Mary since she is the mother of Jesus who was “appointed heir of all things” (Hebrews 1:1-3), making her an example to be imitated by all believers. In addition, when Elizabeth greeted her cousin with a heartfelt blessing upon seeing her for the first time (Luke 1:42-45), she called out God’s favor on Mary due to her courageous response to His plan for her life. This sentiment is echoed elsewhere in scripture which states that believers should imitate those saints who lived exemplary lives before them (Hebrews 13). Therefore, honoring Mary gives Christians an opportunity to express their love and admiration towards one of the most faithful servants mentioned in scripture and encourages them to emulate her virtuous ways.
Furthermore, from a theological point of view, honoring Mary can become an important part of Christian worship because she embodies much symbolism about God’s work in our lives and His ultimate plan for redemption. She magnifies God’s power by serving as an instrument through which He chose to accomplish His redemptive purposes. As such, divine grace was bestowed upon Mary rather than earned by merit as it normally would have been; this points to God’s extraordinary act of mercy towards humanity and how he used his chosen vessel to make salvation come true. Moreover, when interpreting scriptures we can find further support for why we should honor this special woman; when Joseph was told by an angel to take his betrothed wife into his home (Matthew 1:20-21), he humbly obeyed without objecting to God’s will being accomplished through this unconventional union – a testament which points again at how remarkable this woman must have been to accept such a divinely ordained mission.
A final point worth considering is that worshiping Mary can help us deepen our relationship with Jesus because she is his mother–the only person present during every stage in His childhood development process–and therefore shares many qualities with Him such as compassion and humility. Therefore, if we revere the Blessed Virgin Mary it allows us to connect more holistically with Jesus himself because we come closer not just spiritually but also emotionally.
It is important to note that while the veneration of Mary is a common practice in Catholicism, it is not a mandatory part of the faith. Catholics are free to choose whether or not to participate in Marian devotion, and the Church recognizes that different individuals may have different approaches to their spiritual lives.
The veneration of Mary has also been a source of controversy within the Catholic Church, with some individuals arguing that it borders on idolatry or detracts from the centrality of Christ. However, proponents of Marian devotion argue that it is a means of honoring the role that Mary played in salvation history and of connecting more deeply with the divine.
Regardless of one's personal beliefs on the veneration of Mary, it is clear that the practice has played an important role in Catholicism throughout history. From the earliest days of the Church to the present day, Mary has been revered as a symbol of compassion, humility, and maternal love. And while the practice may not be universally accepted or understood, for many Catholics it represents a powerful means of connecting with the divine and deepening their spiritual lives.
In conclusion then, Christians should worship the Blessed Virgin Mary because she represents so much about what being a Christian entails–obedience and faithfulness towards God no matter what difficult task or mission He may call you upon; surrendering yourself wholly over for His redemptive plans through you may be calibrated according to your context; following Christ more intimately due the special connection between Him & His mother; respecting those around us with love & dignity no matter their station in life…and most importantly glorifying our Creator whose very name is invoked whenever we do anything remotely connected with worshipping His beloved daughter – The Blessed Virgin Mary.
